Motor
An electric machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy to drive equipment.
Full Definition
A Motor is an electric machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy (rotation) to drive pumps, fans, compressors, and other mechanical equipment. Motors are characterized by horsepower, voltage, current, efficiency, and speed. They can be controlled by variable frequency drives (VFDs) for speed modulation and energy savings. Motor failures are a common cause of equipment downtime.
