Fan
A mechanical device that moves air through HVAC systems and building spaces.
Full Definition
A Fan is a mechanical device that creates airflow by rotating blades or impellers. In HVAC systems, fans are used in air handling units, exhaust systems, and terminal units to move conditioned air. Types include supply fans, return fans, exhaust fans, and relief fans. Fans are specified by airflow capacity (CFM), static pressure, motor power, and drive type (direct drive, belt drive). Variable frequency drives can modulate fan speed for energy savings.
